Sonmi-451 and Hae-Joo Chang from Cloud Atlas blatantly inspired by Michelangelo’s Pieta cuz it’s one of my favorite classical sculptures ever ever and this for some reason came immediately to mind in the form of drawfeels

I hope it isn’t? the image is largely symbolic, as in this doesn’t happen in the movie at all (Sonmi’s dress is short not long, also Hae-Joo’s bare-chested for only like 5 minutes in the whole movie so it hardly counts) so I stand by that this isn’t actually a spoiler so I hope nobody minds ahhhh

their roles might seem reversed from what one might expect in this context, but I felt that Sonmi giving her speech when the rebel war started was also her way of reaching out to Hae-Joo and giving him solace while he was fighting below. Also it is said that Michelangelo’s Mary embodies “incorruptible purity” so I thought it was fitting.
